Sharing Memories With Your Grandchild
In the past, we lived in the same town as our grandparents and we saw them frequently. We learned about the history of our family through the unplanned sharing that happened over dinner, a picnic, or just dropping by for cookies and milk.
But today most of us are hundreds or even thousands of miles away from our extended family. Knowledge of our roots and the realities of life for our near relatives are lost in the distance and the need to just stay current with "Hi", "How are you?", "What’s happening". This is an unrecoverable loss.
As a new grandparent, you have wisdom and experience that can shape the life of your grandchildren, if you share with them. Sometimes all you need to get the story together is a little organizational help, such as Memories For My Grandchild.
This book is a journal with suggested topics such as Roots, Childhood Years, Teenage Years, and Entering Adulthood. The journal has pockets and special pages to include pictures, recipes, keepsakes, and mementoes. There are open sections to add thoughts, feelings, and lessons learned.
Although a young child may not get excited about a book, the adult he or she will become will treasure the connection to their past after you have moved beyond the chance to tell them the story.
