Brother Sun (Jar), Sister Moon (Jar)
You’ve heard of sun tea in a jar. You’ve heard (if you are literate in Appalachian tradition) of moonshine in a jar. But did you know that you can now buy jars of not only of sunshine, but of sunshine disguising itself as moonshine?

The first time you see the magical mystery glow of The Sun Jar and Moon Jar from designer Tobias Wong, you just may wonder if you have been indulging in some of that storied Appalachian brew.
Consisting of an ordinary Mason Jar so beloved of a dozen generations of home canners, and a 21st century solar panel, rechargeable battery, and LED technology (three lights’ worth), the Sun or Moon Jar gathers and stores solar energy when allowed to rest on a sunny windowsill. Triggered by a light sensitive auto sensor, the frosted glass of each jar begins to emit its warm sunglow, or cool moonlight, as soon as darkness falls.
The Sun and Moon Jars are fully charged after three hours in the sun (and it has to be sunlight) and can provide five hours worth of after-dark illumination. Waterproof, the $40.00 Jars can be left outside to power up in the absence of a suitably sunny window; and we think they’d be perfect in the garden!
(You could just send the kids out on a balmy evening in July to enslave a thousand fireflies or so, but that reminds us too much of Tinker Bell winking out because children no longer believe in fairies!)
